A farewell, not a goodbye
As I’m sure many of you are now aware, the time has come for me to move on to the next chapter in my life, and at the end of the month I will be moving on, to start a new job in the Big Smoke. A country girl through and through, it has always been a dream of mine to live and work the the big City, and after eight brilliant years at Peach, the time has come to spread my wings.
Saying goodbye to The White Horse is going to be tough, but I am very much looking forward to being on the other side of the bar for a change, enjoying a glass (or three!) with all the amazing people I have met here along the way. I have collected some pretty special memories being a Manager of this spectacular Pub, many which I will talk about for years to come, others that are probably best lest unmentioned. I’ll never forget hosting my ‘Dinner Under The Stars’, with the perpetual worry of the unpredictable Great British weather ruining it all. Fortunately for me, and our guests, the weather was gorgeous and the dinner a success! After spending the entire day setting up the long table of 30 with hundreds of candles, flowers, and most importantly, about 20 bottles of wine and Prosecco, we were set, and I will forever cherish sitting on the patio till the early hours, swapping life stories and laughing until I thought I’d cracked a rib. Oh, and let us please not forget the one where a few ladies began dancing on the tables…
And, like all good pubs, we’ve had our ups and downs, but despite it all, I can honestly say I’ve gained friends for life during my time at Peach, and I love each and every one of you dearly. I hope many of you keep in touch and visit me in the Big Smoke next time you’re there, so that we can remember some of our amazing moments together.
You’ll still have the usual familiar faces around the place though, Caroline and Angus to name just two, and from early May taking the reigns from our Sister Pub will be Alex. I’m sure you’ll all give her a true Harpenden welcome.
See you soon, Sam x
